In this audio recording, Lyn Johnson and Bruce Rawles read and talk about FAQ #1020 (Frequently Asked Question #1020) from the Foundation for A Course In Miracles (FACIM) about how to address the depressing realization that we’ve been investing in ego’s surreal estate in our mind. A portion of this brilliant response:
“What is depressing is not the fact that the world is an illusion, but the belief that it is real.”
Lyn read this pertinent quote from Chapter 4, section 1, paragraph 11 of the ACIM Text:
The ego has built a shabby and unsheltering home for you, because it cannot build otherwise. Do not try to make this impoverished house stand. Its weakness is your strength. Only God could make a home that is worthy of His creations, who have chosen to leave it empty by their own dispossession. Yet His home will stand forever, and is ready for you when you choose to enter it. Of this you can be wholly certain. God is as incapable of creating the perishable as the ego is of making the eternal.
We also refer to this amusing skit from Monty Python: Mystico and Janet – Flats Built By Hipnosis … I left the typo, in the last word, since, as egos, we actually think the dream we ‘know’ (fake gnosis) is hip. :-) Enjoy!
(Update 16May2021: Evidently the video is no longer available, but here is a link to the storyline on the Monty Python Wiki.)
“Sickness is a decision. ²It is not a thing that happens to you, quite unsought, which makes you weak and brings you suffering. ³It is a choice you make, a plan you lay, when for an instant truth arises in your own deluded mind, and all your world appears to totter and prepare to fall.” (ACIM, W-136.7:1-3)
