Lyn Johnson and Bruce Rawles talk about “bucket lists” in this audio conversation about FACIM (Foundation for A Course In Miracles) Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) #1147. At some point, we begin to see the pattern that all the meaningless roads ego leads us down never make us happy and we generalize to choose another teacher, our eternally present Inner Kindness Teacher, instead. Meanwhile, it is seemingly (as ACIM reminds) tragic only in time, but not in eternity, if we fall for the ego’s seek-but-never-find propaganda one … more … time. We don’t have to try every permutation of what won’t work, but it’s only – as Ken Wapnick says – not evil, sinful or wicked … just silly: a laughable dream delusion we can awaken from gently.
Here are some links to some items that Lyn mentioned: the annual Science and Non-Duality Conference, authors Michael Langford, and Anthony de Mello. She referred to this paragraph from Chapter 4 of ACIM’s text:
“T-4.I.3. Spirit need not be taught, but the ego must be. 2 Learning is ultimately perceived as frightening because it leads to the relinquishment, not the destruction, of the ego to the light of spirit. 3 This is the change the ego must fear, because it does not share my charity. 4 My lesson was like yours, and because I learned it I can teach it. 5 I will never attack your ego, but I am trying to teach you how its thought system arose. 6 When I remind you of your true creation, your ego cannot but respond with fear.”
… and this favorite quote from ACIM’s Workbook Lesson 189:
“Simply do this: Be still, and lay aside all thoughts of what you are and what God is; all concepts you have learned about the world; all images you hold about yourself. Empty your mind of everything it thinks is either true or false, or good or bad, of every thought it judges worthy, and all the ideas of which it is ashamed. Hold onto nothing. Do not bring with you one thought the past has taught, nor one belief you ever learned before from anything. Forget this world, forget this course, and come with wholly empty hands unto your God.”
Lyn Johnson moderates and contributes generously to the ACIM Gather online forum. Bruce Rawles is another multiple-decade student of ACIM. Lyn and Bruce have a weekly hour of conversation about ACIM on Saturday mornings on ACIM Gather, typically focusing on readings from FACIM online materials.
