In this video, “Dr. Bob” a.k.a. Dr. Robert Rosenthal and Bruce Rawles talk about some of the brilliant ideas in his new book “From Never-Mind to Ever-Mind”. We emphasized some of the concepts in chapters 4 and 5 of his second book, “The Call of Wholeness” and “’Taters, Alters, and Gems: Mending the Fractured Self” respectively.
In the former chapter, Bob provides examples of how the individuals within formations of flying geese and celebrating sports fans (seemingly unrelated choices) can transcend separate interests and restore our awareness to greater inclusive identity, even if only temporarily. He also mentioned the profound mystical state sometimes experienced when musical harmony reflects a decision in the mind to let go of a divided identity, such as when a practiced choir reaches a level of mastery during the performance of an inspired work.
In the latter chapter, he draws upon his many years in private practice as a psychotherapist working with patients suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), a.k.a. multiple personalities. By providing a safe space where judgment (attack and fear of it) is suspended (as one of ACIM’s supplements about psychotherapy also advises) gradually patients heal their schisms by allowing the fragments or “alters” of their personality to bring themselves to the illumined “altar” of Holy Spirit’s integration. This has superb parallels to the Course’s pure non-dual metaphysics which suggests that our silly-but-forgivable “seemingly separated selves” are simply the result of a mistaken but correctable choice in the mind. As we ask our Inner Kindness Teacher (our internal therapist) to assist us in this mending of what appear to interpersonal fractures, the intrinsic, eternal intrapersonal Unity we all share – as One Self: Unchangeable Oneness reflected as sameness – is revealed.
Along with Tamara Morgan – daughter of Judy Whitson, the founder of the Foundation for Inner Peace (FIP) which publishes A Course In Miracles, Dr. Bob is co-president of FIP, as well as the author of From Plagues to Miracles (FPTM) – his first book –which explores the metaphysical metaphors and symbolism of the story of Exodus, available in both paperback and Kindle editions.
