Gary Renard and Cindy Lora-Renard talk with Bruce Rawles in this video about true forgiveness in the context of current events in the context of A Course in Miracles.
We begin with a perspective reminding us that we’re always (not just lately) confronted with the “best” ego can muster to keep us mindlessly insane, ignorant of the fact that we’re projecting our unconscious unfounded guilt onto this surreal world. Things seem to be getting worse (on the level of form) but looking from a more cosmic perspective, we’re probably much better off living now than when our ancestors were around. However, our job is to look at the world with the Holy Spirit instead of ego. … and we need to practice forgiveness over and over until we master it; repetition is essential to mastery.
We need to remember that what we’re seeing is not true. However, what we’re doing (with our mind choosing Holy Spirit’s curriculum of undoing the belief in separation) is important; making a real contribution to the healing of the mind of everyone.
We talked about how anything that seems to disturb our peace is an ego misinterpretation and we can call upon Holy Spirit in our minds for correction. Here are some Course quotes we referred to (directly or indirectly) during this conversation relating to the Course’s idea of right-mindedness:
- “The secret of true prayer is to forget the things you think you need.” (ACIM, S-1.I.4:1)
- “Heaven is the decision I must make.” (ACIM, W-138
- “You cannot behave appropriately unless you perceive correctly. ⁶Since you and your neighbor are equal members of one family, as you perceive both so you will do to both. ⁷You should look out from the perception of your own holiness to the holiness of others.” (ACIM, T-1.III.6:5-7)
- “A tranquil mind is not a little gift.” (ACIM, M-20.4:8)
- 113. The disciples said to him, “When will the Kingdom come?” He said, “It will not come by watching for it. It will not be said, ‘Behold here,’ or ‘Behold there.’ Rather, the Kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth, and people do not see it.” – last of Pursah’s Gospel of Thomas, on page 171 of Your Immortal Reality – How to Break the Cycle of Birth and Death by Gary R. Renard*
- “To Have, Give All to All” (ACIM, T-6.V-A)
- “The Holy Spirit sees only guiltlessness, and in His gentleness He would release from fear and re-establish the reign of love.” (ACIM, T-14.V.10:8)
- “… fear is a call for love, in unconscious recognition of what has been denied.” (ACIM, T-12.I.8:13)
- “There is no separation of God and His creation.” (ACIM, T-8.V.2:8)
- “Briefly consider all the evil things you thought of him, and each time ask yourself, “Would I condemn myself for doing this?” (ACIM, W-134.15:3)
- “There is no time, no place, no state where God is absent.” (ACIM, T-29.I.1:1)
- “The real world is achieved when you perceive the basis of forgiveness is quite real and fully justified.” (ACIM, T-30.VI.3:3)
- “Miracles are habits, and should be involuntary.” (ACIM, T-1.I.5:1)
- “An untrained mind can accomplish nothing.” (ACIM, W-in.1:3)
- “I am never upset for the reason I think.” (ACIM, W-5)
- “I could see peace instead of this.” (ACIM, W-34)
- “This world seems to hold out many purposes, each different and with different values. ⁹Yet they are all the same. Again there is no order; only a seeming hierarchy of values.” (ACIM, T-20.VIII.8:8-10)
- “He overlooks the mind and body, seeing only the face of Christ shining in front of him, correcting all mistakes and healing all perception.” (ACIM, M-22.4:5)
- “The full awareness of the Atonement, then, is the recognition that the separation never occurred.” (ACIM, T-6.II.10:7)
- “God’s promises make no exceptions.” (ACIM, W-292.1:1)
- “If this were the real world, God would be cruel.” (ACIM, T-13.in.3:1)
- “Truth will correct all errors in my mind.” (ACIM, W-107)
- “The world we see merely reflects our own internal frame of reference—the dominant ideas, wishes and emotions in our minds. ‘Projection makes perception’ (T-21.in.1:1). We look inside first, decide the kind of world we want to see and then project that world outside, making it the truth as we see it. We make it true by our interpretations of what it is we are seeing. If we are using perception to justify our own mistakes—our anger, our impulses to attack, our lack of love in whatever form it may take—we will see a world of evil, destruction, malice, envy and despair. All this we must learn to forgive, not because we are being ‘good’ and ‘charitable,’ but because what we are seeing is not true. We have distorted the world by our twisted defenses, and are therefore seeing what is not there. As we learn to recognize our perceptual errors, we also learn to look past them or ‘forgive.’ At the same time we are forgiving ourselves, looking past our distorted self-concepts to the Self That God created in us and as us.” (ACIM, Preface.6:1-9)
- “The world you see is the delusional system of those made mad by guilt.” (ACIM, T-13.in.2:2)
- “Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred.” (ACIM, W-pII.1.1:1)
- “The sole responsibility of God’s teacher is to accept the Atonement for himself.” (ACIM, M-18.4:5)
* My favorite – and easy to remember because it’s so short! – quote from Pursah’s Gospel of Thomas is #42: “Be passersby.”
