In 1992 while visiting the Cairo Museum, our local tour guide described the symbolism of the papyrus depicting a balance scale with a heart on one side and a feather on the other, suggesting that our freedom depended on whether our heart metaphorically was ‘as light as a feather.’ We have help in achieving this levity of spirit by listening to our Inner Kindness Teacher and gently releasing our investments in guilt: forgiving ourselves for making ‘big deals’ out of nothing – at least nothing from a cosmic perspective – and learning to replace the values and priorities we place on grievances, condemnations and all sort of bargains with specialness … with valuing our collective peace through shared interests and kind-hearted inclusive thoughts – the ones that lift our hearts out of the dungeon of divisiveness. In this audio recording, CA Brooks and Bruce Rawles converse about just such values and priorities; we read from Workbook Lesson 133: I will not value what is valueless. When we ask – for the transient and temporary – from ego’s parody of a self, we don’t ask for too much but far too little! “This course does not attempt to take from you the little that you have. It does not try to substitute utopian ideas for satisfactions which the world contains. There are no satisfactions in the world.” Chasing after … and most importantly investing our identity in … fleeting and ephemeral euphoria is never going to make us happy. Nothing wrong with those things, but eventually we’ll all realize that the real value is in the eternal innocent essence we all share. :-)
